Meat Sheep Alliance of Florida

The Meat Sheep Alliance of Florida (MSA), founded in 1990, was organized to promote the sheep industry in Florida and provide information and education to its members, and to the general public, regarding the production of sheep. Florida residence and sheep ownership are not required for membership. We meet twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, for educational programs, to socialize, and to share ideas. We are an active and enthusiastic group of friendly farm folk who enjoy hanging out together, and talking sheep. We share, encourage, and help one another meet the challenges of raising livestock in the southeast.

Membership is $20 per year, and includes spouses, children, and farm hands. Spring and Fall meetings, luncheons, and workshops are free to members. With MSA membership comes access to successful producers whose shared experience will be of priceless benefit.           Plus, we have excellent cooks.

Famacha Training is an invaluable tool for learning how to access the correct portion of the eye to gage the level of anemia, caused by the deadly barber pole worm. The producer can monitor each animal to see which ones are most resistant to parasites, then select those individuals for breeding. Keeping lambs at a healthy parasite level will ensure good health and fast growth. Sick or slow moving animals will be easily diagnosed with parasites using the Famacha technique.
